The mining seminar and exhibition in Kajaani October 18, 2012 gave new insights about the booming mining industry in Scandinavian countries. Sotkamo Silver Oy is planning to open a silver mine in Taivaljarvi, Sotkamo.

Environmental permit is expected in Autumn 2012. Approximately 20 million Euros has been spent on project development already. Production is planned to start at the end of 2013 or in early 2014.

Sandvik is active at the Talvivaara mine in Sotkamo. I did have a chat with people responsible for the maintenance of their equipments.

AT THE OTHER SIDE OF  THE GLOBE

Cobar Consolidated Resources Limited (ASX:CCU) is an Australian mine developer on the way to becoming a globally significant silver producer through development of the Wonawinta silver project south of Cobar in western New South Wales.

The project is fully funded and fully permitted and started commissioning in March 2012. Take a look at the Wonawinta site progress video 20 March 2012 giving a quick overview about the project.

CCR has a large tenement position on the western margin of the Cobar basin in western New South Wales.  The Cobar mineral field is an attractive area for investment in mineral exploration and mining.  It is characterized by high grade, long-life, multi-metal deposits, has good infrastructure, an experienced work force and a long-standing mining tradition.
