Recovery Boiler at end of useful Life

Helge: Hello, what do you think about these figures? There is something very peculiar going on in this country. I want to mention a few important places: Summa, Varkaus, Kuopio, Kemijärvi. There is also a parallel process involving Kajaani, Tervakoski, Äänekoski and / or Jämsänkoski.

I count 4 and 4. In addition, there are two other important places in Eastern Finland and one close to Turku.

Sweeden seems to be very quiet. Why? Are they concentrating on something else?

To justify this approach, the recovery boiler has to be near the end of its useful life, the mill viable enough to justify replacement, and the wholesale electric price at or greater than about $50/MW hour.

Recovery Boilers at the end ot useful life

The fact that the recover boilers need to be at the end of their useful life for complete economic justification is both a problem and a potential blessing.

The problem is that it could take a couple of decades to replace the aging fleet of recovery boilers. The potential blessing is that we (US, FIN, EU, JPN) have an aging fleet that is about 30 years ahead of the current large tropical hardwood mills.

This gives the a potential for a 30-year economic lead. Further, we know that a more valuable stream of more highly valued chemicals can be produced. It will be up to future generations to advance the technology to maintain a competitive advantage.
